This sculpture was made for a series of works called Timbres which means the distinctive quality or character of someone or something. Using a variety of woods that are cut and shaped by hand Joel endeavours to create an original work with personality that is arresting. By painting what he has constructed Joel draws out the shapes and shadows of the sculpture to accentuate his composition.
